Ways To Give

By partnering with the Community Foundation, you will join hundreds of committed citizens working with us to solve the most challenging problems in Mercer County, WV, Tazewell County, VA, and other nearby counties.

Whatever your philanthropic dreams, the Community Foundation provides expertise and flexibility in charitable giving.
You can create a lasting tribute to a friend or a loved one by giving a memorial donation to the foundation. You can also honor special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, and special ceremonies for people you care about with a donation made in their name.
The Foundation will work with donors to create an endowment and giving program customized to their passions, assets, and personal and financial goals. Charitable gift planning through the Community Foundation allows donors to make a philanthropic legacy to support the issues and causes that are important to them long into the future, and in the process, helps them realize financial, tax, and estate planning benefits.
The following information will help donors achieve their philanthropic goals:

Endowment Fund Options

Individuals, families, or others that wish to create and establish their own permanent endowment funds may select the type of fund that best suits their charitable interests, name the fund, and determine how to fund it. A minimum of $10,000 is required to establish a fund.

Build-A-Fund

The foundation’s Build-A-Fund option enables donors to develop a charitable fund over time. This opens the door to those who would like to give back to the community, but need time to accrue the $10,000 endowment amount. A fund can be established by making tax-deductible contributions of at least $2,000 a year over a five-year period.
The following options may be utilized in setting up a fund that will achieve the donor’s philanthropic goals:

Unrestricted

Unrestricted funds provide the Board of Directors the most latitude and flexibility in responding to changing community needs in the broadest areas of charitable interests for the present and future.

Field-of-Interest

This type of fund addresses the particular areas of charitable interest (Education; Health; The Arts, Culture and the Humanities; and Human Services) or needs of the donor, but does not limit grants to a particular nonprofit organization.

Donor-Designated

A donor-designated fund allows the donor to name one or more specific nonprofit charitable organizations to receive grants from the fund.

Donor-Advised

In a donor-advised fund, the donor or an appointed Advisory Committee makes periodic recommendations for grant distributions from the fund.

Organization Endowment

This type of fund allows nonprofit organizations to establish a named permanent endowment fund for their own benefit within the foundation, rather than establishing and managing a separate fund or foundation themselves.

Scholarship

Scholarship Funds provide an opportunity for a donor to aid area students in furthering their education.
