Grantmaking

In 2007, over $114,310 was authorized by the Community Foundation's Board of Directors to provide 31 grants to charitable organizations in Mercer and Tazewell Counties, and scholarships were awarded to 21 deserving area students.

With the 2007 awards and the Foundation’s eleventh grant cycle, more than $400,000 has been returned to this area since the first grant cycle in 1997 through grants and scholarships.

The Grants Committee is composed of twelve members, chaired by Betty Gardner Bailey. The committee is charged with the responsibility of evaluating all grant requests and to the best of their ability, allocate the funds according to need.

The nine-member Scholarship Committee is chaired by Carol Dodson, and has the responsibility to evaluate all applications for scholarship assistance, allocating funds to those students most deserving.
