Grants and Scholarships
In its more than 20 years of grant making the Community Foundation has supported dozens of worthwhile community organizations and projects, and hundreds of deserving students with scholarship assistance. With the inclusion of the 2018 awards, the Foundation has returned more than $2,100,000 to the area since 1997 in grants and scholarships.

The Community Foundation of the Virginias, Inc. is pleased to announce the award of 48 grants for 2018. These awards totaling more than $111,180 represent the Foundationís 21st annual grant cycle supporting local nonprofit groups.
With the inclusion of the 2018 awards, the Foundation has returned $1,711,000 to the area since 1997 in grants.
The Grants Committee is chaired by Robert Perkinson and comprised of: Mary Jo Babbitt, Marie Blankenship, Kathleen Blaydes, Carole Dodson, Kermit Moore, Doris Sue Kantor.

The Foundation accepts Grant applications from April through June each year.
The Community Foundation of the Virginias, Inc., awards discretionary and field-of-interest grants to charitable organizations for Education; The Arts, Culture and the Humanities; Health; and Human Services, located in or serving Mercer County, WV and Tazewell County, VA.

The Board of Directors of the Community Foundation of the Virginias, Inc. met in May, 2018, and approved scholarship recommendations from the Scholarship Committee for students who are graduating seniors at high schools in Mercer, McDowell and Fayette counties in West Virginia, and Tazewell County, Virginia, or are college students who have been awarded a scholarship on a continuing basis.
Scholarship recipients are chosen through a competitive application process by the Scholarship Committee, which is chaired by Carole Dodson, with members Gene Bailey, Mary Raub and Bettye VanDyke.
Thirty individual endowed funds awarded scholarships totaling more than $142,000. The scholarships were awarded to graduating seniors at seven area high schools, and to students attending several colleges and universities.

Applying for Scholarships in 2019
The online Scholarship Application will be available for use on or before February 1st, and the application period is open until April 1, 2019.
Some Scholarships will have a blue circle icon with an "i" in it. Hold your mouse over this icon for important information about this Scholarship's requirements.
